Home Inspector Certification Controversy

If a real estate agent tells you a particular inspector is not approved by the Real Estate Board of BC or is not CAHPI Certified it does not necessarily mean the inspector lacks certification. These type of statements are a red herring to sway your choice of inspector to a lesser threat to the sale. The Real Estate Board has no authority to license or regulate home inspectors and CAHPI is simply one of four recognized and licensed home inspector associations; neither better nor worse than the other three. There are good and bad inspectors in all associations.

If the inspector is licensed he/she will be insured and “qualified”. You can research it for yourself at Consumer Protection BC.
